Paper 2 Question 3 is a language analysis question worth 12 marks. Aim to spend about 15 minutes writing the answer and use part of the 15 minutes reading time to plan. It is essentially the same task as Paper 1 Question 2 but the texts are non fiction, so you are more likely to see DEFOREST style techniques than loads of imagery and extended metaphor. Still keep an eye out for any effective figurative language. Because you have a touch more time and a higher mark tariff, target three clear analytical paragraphs rather than two so your coverage is thorough and focused on the question.

Sign inThis question is worth 12 marks. That means you should spend about 15 minutes answering the question and you would have also used some time in your 15 minutes reading time for planning of it as well. Other than that, this question is identical to paper one question two. It's another language analysis question and that's all you have to do is just analyze language in answer to the question. One of the differences, of course, is the fact that you're dealing with non-fiction texts and so that means that you're more likely to get DEFOREST techniques in there rather than things like imagery and metaphorical language. So, you want to be keeping your eyes peeled for all of those DEFOREST techniques so that you'll be able to
analyze those, but you can also still look out for the typical techniques you find in fiction as well. Your aim is to write write about three paragraphs rather than two, that's the other difference, because of the fact that you've got a little bit longer to write and therefore you can be a bit more thorough.
